On Sol 1890 (such as May 18, 2009) the Opportunity Rover used its MI Camera to take a picture of its underside.
While out of focus (as expected for this distance), the image does show the Rover Wheels (left middle and left rear), the ground and the "Underbelly" of Opportunity. This information may prove helpful for extracting Spirit's Wheels from the soft Martian Soil it has encountered and might be a way to see whether Spirit's belly pan is touching the rocks beneath it". Carlo Contu)63 visiteDal nostro carissimo Amico e Partner, Carlo Contu, un curioso dettaglio emerge da un frame Opportunity altrimenti non particolarmente significativo: una sorta di "uncino", infatti, è ben visibile accanto al ruotino anteriore Dx del Rover.
Si tratta di una feature del Rover? Probabilmente si (Logica e Pragmatismo alla mano), ma la verità è che questo dettaglio è la prima volta - almeno a nostro parere - che appare nei frames Opportunity e quindi...Ci lascia perplessi.
Premesso l'ottimo "occhio" di Carlo - che, come sempre, ringraziamo di Cuore! -, c'è qualcuno che vuole provare a spiegarci che cosa stiamo guardando?...MareKromium

Il segno che vediamo ci ricorda, usando un pizzico di fantasia, il risultato del passaggio di una mola su una superficie decisamente solida o anche - perchè no? - l'impronta di un microsolco (insomma un disco in vinile, come quelli che circolavano sino a qualche anno fa).
Ma il punto cruciale non è "che cosa sembra" o "che cosa ci ricorda", in fondo, l'impronta del ruotino. Il punto, ovviamente, è un altro: "di che cosa è fatta" la "sabbia (?)" di Meridiani per "reagire" in questo modo alle sollecitazioni esterne?
Alcuni Ricercatori (anche noi, alle volte) pensano che la sabbia di Meridiani sia "umida". E se si trattasse di sabbia completamente intrisa di ghiaccio d'acqua ed è proprio questo ghiaccio d'acqua che la rende così compatta e collosa - e quindi simile -, per esempio, alla "calce"?
